Honing our AEDP Skills: Moment-to-Moment Tracking and Entry Points Across the AEDP States

Date: November 6, 2022 (9:00-5:00pm).
This program is appropriate for Psychologists, Psychoanalysts, Psychiatrists, Social Workers, MFTs, and Counselors. Course Content Level: Intermediate

Description:

One of the key concepts of AEDP is the experiential focus. It is the "E" of AEDP - The Experiential Method and Experiential Processing. So first and foremost we practice being in the moment, in the body, in the here-and-now -- which is the heart and core of AEDP.

We do this by attuned Moment-to-Moment tracking of changes and fluctuations in the affective and somatic experience of the patient, the therapist, and the relationship. An AEDP therapist uses moment-to-moment tracking across the states. We track for transformance, affective openings, shifts, glimmers, somatic and relationship cues. This helps us know where we are on the AEDP 4-state map and locates entry points for us to facilitate, deepen and move the process across all the states. This workshop will look at WHAT exactly are we tracking and what we DO with what we learn by tracking. We will review and highlight these AEDP skills. Using a balance of “left brain” and “right brain” approaches we will explore moment-to-moment tracking and ways to do it across the four states. We will explicitly look at how we use tracking to inform attunement and entry points. We will focus on clinical technique and make extensive use of videotaped clinical work to demonstrate the application of these AEDP interventions and theory.

- Review moment-to-moment tracking in AEDP
- Practice Attunement as needed for skillful tracking
- What to track? Transformance, affective openings, shifts, glimmers, somatic cues.
- How to track? Verbal and non-verbal approaches
- Tracking the therapy relationship - Use of therapist self
- Entry Points in AEDP across the 4 states
- Clinical videos
